What Design needs now
Today designers and architects are facing calls from clients and lawmakers to prioritize the environmental impacts of their design decisions alongside traditional drivers like functionality and aesthetics. Faced with the urgency of the task at hand, every choice truly does count.
Materialisting helps make environmental considerations a seamless part of your workflow by showing you real data on material and product choices, quickly and without extra work. It helps you shift the focus from post-project calculations and reporting to proactive environmental design. And it’s a great way to add value for your clients by offering real estate owners useful and accurate sustainability data on their properties.
THE DESIGNERS BEAR THE RESPONSIBILITY
" Partnering with Materialisting does not only align with our strategic objectives but also actively contributes to the advancement of the field. The designers bear the responsibility for bringing the environmental perspectives of product choices to the attention of customers and for considering the impacts of these choices in decision-making. STEP 1
Search
Save time and gain reliable insight.
Materialisting makes finding the right products for every project simple. Filter by product type, manufacturer, country of origin, data type, certificates, lifecycle stage, and much more. Utilise time frames and unit conversions to make sure you're comparing apples with apples. Finally, sort your searches by criteria like CO₂ emissions, Ecosystem Impacts, Circularity aspects and more, to find the best possible options.
Use the Search to get some
Inspiration
-
Find new materials
-
Look for alternatives to your typical choices
-
Get to know different manufacturers
Reference
-
Find common environmental values of certain materials / product types
-
See how the products' technical service life affects their environmental impact
-
Find the most sustainable products from categories or manufacturers
Insight & answers
-
Find the best products based on different environmental aspects within your search criteria, i.e. find products with the smallest carbon footprint, the biggest share of recycled material, and more!
-
Compare different products’ environmental strengths/ weaknesses
-
Find different manufacturers’ EPDs (raw environmental data)
-
Search for products with certain certificates
STEP 2
Compare
Make & validate your product choices easily.
Dig even deeper and compare products in greater detail by adding them to Comparison Groups, where you can check things like technical & impact attributes side-by-side. Add your own comparison factors, like price points or other notes, and share it all with colleagues or clients.
Use the Comparison tool for
Details
-
Dig deep into different aspects of the products you're considering
-
Check the differences between products that are new to you
-
Consider technical & environmental aspects simultaneously
Your own thoughts
-
Add custom fields and fill them with your own information, such as prices or ranking.
-
Organise the comparison by dragging the products to your preferred order.
-
Leave comments on the products to remember your thoughts later or to let your colleague know.
Team work
-
Share Comparisons with colleagues or clients with a link.
-
Export comparisons to Excell for further editing.
STEP 3
Organise

Use the Collections for
Your favourites
-
Save your favorite products to find them later without hassle. Think memory board.
-
See how products match with each other.
Grouping
-
Create product groups from whichever viewpoint you prefer, for example: options for lobby flooring, blue carpet options, building boards with small CO₂ emissions, and acoustic panels with over 50% recycled material... You name it!
Sharing
-
Share your plans & vision with your colleagues easily
-
Compile collections to present your thoughts & findings and share them with the outside world, for example on social media, and let others learn from the insights you have gained.
STEP 4
Calculate for Projects
Analyze & optimize your projects' sustainability.
Create shared project folders, monitor emissions in real-time, weigh different scenarios, and generate detailed reports. Materialisting enables you to make data-driven decisions to minimize your carbon footprint and manage your projects sustainably.
Use the Project tools for
Product management
-
Create shared Project Folders, and save & manage products on project level.
-
Create Custom Products of your own to fill in the gaps.
-
Create flexible subfolders to organise your products according to your needs, for example by product type, space, surface, or structure.
Emission tracking
-
See the compiled emission level of different products with the correct amounts and units.
-
Follow material -related emissions of the entire project real-time.
-
See how your project's emissions are distributed between different parts of the project, like spaces or material types.
Best solutions
-
Create scenarios for different material and product combinations, and see which solution would be the most environmentally friendly.
-
Find out what could (or should) be changed to make the project better for the environment.
Reporting
-
Choose what to calculate & which life cycle stages to focus on.
-
Add or modify information manually at any time.
-
Compile emission data into reports and download those to Excel for further customisation.
-
For limited countries (first only Finland, soon others): pre-made reporting templates that meet local requirements, plus the ability to supplement data from your local public data banks.
Modular goodness coming your way
This is what we're currently working on:
Our new Module Tool lets you create and reuse pre-configured sets of materials & products. Whether you're designing a kitchen or a wall structure, modules can save you time, help you compare emissions between different configurations, and ensure consistency across your projects. Explore pre-made modules created by others, or build your own.
This feature is set to be launched in 2025, and it will be included in our Project -subscription, but you can always search existing modules for free!
